What is Turkish Delight?

Turkish Delight or Lokum is a family of confections based on starch, sugar and cream of tartar. Premium varieties consist largely of pistachios and hazelnuts or almonds; the best Turkish Delight contains only natural flavouring, such as cinnamon, clove, and rose water.

What is Turkish Delight Famous For?

One of Turkey’s most famous exports, Turkish delight (lokum) is the most well known sweet in the world associated with Turkish cuisine and nearly all candy shops sell Turkish delight, which can be seasoned with many different flavours. Turkish Delight is also famed for featuring in the Narnia Books, written by C.S. Lewis, and the subsequent Hollywood movies.

Turkish delight, like many gummy candies, starts off by boiling sugar and water to make a sugar syrup and is then thickened using corn starch, which sets it apart from other chewy candies.
